Why your child might need a space maintainer?
Children may need space maintainers if they lose a tooth early or if removed a baby tooth (primary) due to dental caries. Whatever the case, it is important to know the benefits of using a space maintainer and how it can help keep your child’s dental health. A space maintainer is an appliance that is custom made ??by the dentist or orthodontist acrylic or metal. They may be removable or fixed with cement in the child’s mouth. Its purpose is to keep the space open to allow the permanent tooth bud and it reaches its place. Baby teeth are important for the development of the teeth, jaw bones and muscles and help guide permanent teeth into position when they lose their baby teeth. If space is not maintained, then the teeth can move into the open space and may require orthodontic treatment. Not all children who lose a baby tooth early due to tooth decay or require a space maintainer, but a professional consultation with your dentist or orthodontist should be performed to determine whether to use a space maintainer.

Types of space maintainers
There are two types of space maintainers for children, removable and fixed ..
1. Removable – Removable space maintainers are similar to orthodontic appliances and are usually made of acrylic. In some cases, an artificial tooth can be used to fill a space that must remain open for tooth unerupted.
2. Fixed – There are four different kinds of fixed space maintainers: unilateral, crown and ring, distal and lingual shoes.

Space maintainers unilateral and ring crown and placed on one side of the mouth to keep open the space for a tooth. The unilateral space maintainer surrounds the outer surface of the tooth and is connected to the metal ring intact space. The crown and the ring is a royal crown that covers the tooth and is attached to the ring to ensure there is space for the tooth to sprout. The space maintainer distal shoe is often used for a first permanent molar has not erupted. A space maintainer is more complicated because the metal finish is usually inserted into the gum line to make the open space is not closed. A dentist will need to monitor the progress of permanent molar teeth to make sure it flows properly shoot the space maintainer. The space maintainer tongue is usually bilateral in nature and can be attached to the molars and connected by a wire on the inside lower front teeth. The procedure is usually used when more than one tooth missing. Sometimes, children may lack teeth due to congenital and may require a partial denture in place of a space maintainer. It is important that you meet with your dental health professional to determine whether it is an option.

Milk is the most important food for your baby, but when you fall asleep with a sucker in his mouth, the milk builds up and stays in the upper front teeth. The natural sugar in cow’s milk and quickly becomes acidic and starts the destruction of the teeth. Because this type of decay occurs only in the back of the upper front teeth, is not easily seen.

Pacha if feeding is used not only to feed the baby but to keep quiet or console, the only liquid that should be used is water. Any drink sweetened, carbonated water, fruit juices, milk for babies and “sugar water” can destroy the teeth.
Priate your baby begins to drink liquids from a cup and eating solid foods, you must be careful in selecting foods that provide a sensible diet and proper nutrition. Feeding habits run today, severely affect dental and general health for the rest of their lives.

Follow your dentist’s advice about the measures taken to prevent dental disease: proper diet and oral hygiene, use of fluoride and regular dental visits to stop problems at an early stage.

Small children sometimes have a front tooth is larger or more advanced than the other teeth, often called rabbit teeth. What is the cause of this rabbit teeth?Such dental condition known as ‘buck teeth’. Children who have rabbit teeth are often the subject of teasing among friends.

Although the form of teeth like this look harmless, but can cause health problems because of the suitability of an unhealthy tooth.
As quoted from Atlantadentist.com, Saturday (05/06/2010) conditions such teeth can be caused by genetic factors or the effects of thumb-sucking as an infant or child that lasts a long time.

Thumb is that a lot of bad habits by children, because it is believed to give special pleasure to these children.

Most children will stop this habit between the ages of 2-4 years. But to prevent the occurrence of ‘rabbit teeth’ could not hurt to stop this habit early.

In addition, genetic factors are also thought to play a role in conditions such teeth. Although not yet known with certainty relations.

If this tooth form to prevent complete closure of the lips, it will be very embarrassing and unsightly.

If not repaired immediately can cause some problems, because the more advanced position so that the tooth susceptible to collision or the inability to eat and chew properly.

In this condition is easier if started at an early age, especially if your child is already starting to complain of health problems in his mouth. The doctor can guide the growth of teeth and maintenance will be cheaper.

If the dental condition is not corrected early, the possibility of maintenance required is to use braces and processes needed will be much slower.

Treatment with the use of braces will affect the person’s activities, such as for eating or speaking. However this treatment is still chosen by many people, because it can restore and repair the tooth to the actual position in the oral cavity.

In these braces procedure using metal links placed on the teeth and connected by wires. When the cable is pulled, the strength of the cable tends to help the movement to a position of real teeth.

Know with certainty whether the child condition rabbit teeth are disturbing or could cause health problems or not. Nothing wrong to consult with your dentist so that early treatment easier.

Once teeth begin to appear in the mouths of children , care must also begin. Bearing in mind we offer some tips for dental health of children .

For those who just have the first tooth , it is recommended to be cleaned with a cotton or cloth. As their number increases to use a soft toothbrush and special toothpaste for children , because adult products may cause stains on the teeth of children by their high content of fluorine, in part because they have not learned to spit properly, keeping your mouth product quantities greater than those needed for dental cleaning .

As to the first visit to the dentist, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry used to be told it was about 3 years, however, given that many children already have tooth decay when they start their school years, the council has changed to make this visit six months after the onset of the first tooth and no later than twelve months.

Some children may be more likely to suffer tooth decay , for example those who tend to sleep with objects in their mouths or who remain most of the day using a cup or other receptacle for fluids. In these cases, preventive visits to the dentist will take place every 6 months. In lower-risk cases, the doctor will be responsible for recommending the frequency.

Another risk factor that should be taken into account is the inheritance. If the relatives of the child or the child has had recurrent bouts with dental diseases, is advised to visit the specialist every 6 months so that, if they occur, detect such problems early.

The most important thing is to pay attention to the way teeth come and make appropriate follow-up, better yet if this is done by a dentist specializing in pediatric dentistry.

Possibility Related Posts:

Their First Phase of “Missions Smile”
Missions smiles general aims and promote prevention through education and training to teachers from different schools, crèches, and professionals of h...

Rabbit Teeth

There are many factors involved in dental health of children. From sleep disorders, in which the subject can open or close the mouth, clenching of teeth or bite. Until postural disorders such as alterations in the growth of children or deviations in the spine, which determine the position of the head and therefore how to open and close the mouth.

The Spanish Society of Integrated Child Dentistry (SEOII) is particularly aware of it, why Granada has organized the sixth national congress welcomes pediatricians, speech therapists, physiotherapists and other child health professionals to integrate knowledge and treatments improve as a team, the medical treatment of minors.

The head of this meeting, Mercedes Galvez, stresses that the main objective is “linking health problems in the child’s mouth with the rest of the body. To this end, participants, experts from Spain and other countries such as Portugal, Brazil, Mexico and Italy, will share experiences and try to leave your area and unify particular treatments.

In this sense, the president of the SEOII, Antonia Domínguez, explains that there are many conditions and diseases that affect the mouth, such as diabetes or leukemia, which increases the caries treatment and hinders the occlusion of the mouth. Similarly, the expert says it is vital that children have a healthy mouth for any surgery, because even a cavity can be a source of infection, “it is important to integrate the knowledge and know what is the priority for the child,” he added.

The conference has started today and runs until Saturday at the Nevada Palace Hotel Granada Abbots. Eugenio Cabrera, SEOII science adviser, said that these issues are essential to the health of the child, and that even if they are baby teeth, they are guiding the development of bone which support the adult teeth.

According to experts, currently the largest children’s dental problems are malocclusion (when teeth do not fit well and needed braces) and tooth decay.

Just published the White Paper for Oral Health in Spain 2010, prepared by Laboratorios Lacer, in collaboration with the General Dental Council.

The data provided in this report are somewhat alarming. The first tells us that 50% of Spanish children aged between 2 and 13 currently have a dental problem .

In addition, 25% of children in the same age with a poor position of the teeth. And 21% suffer some decay , even teeth.

POOR PARENTS WATCH
The Oral Health White Paper shows that 85% of parents have not taken your child to the dentist in the past 12 months . In the vast majority of cases through neglect or carelessness, but by ignorance of parents about the importance of regular visits to the dentist.

Also, as the medical director Lacer, Javier Watch, “Many parents think that it is necessary to prevent disease in teeth, and which will eventually fall. But if these conditions are not treated, diseases such as childhood caries may ultimately affect the permanent tooth, which is hidden and training process. “

That is, we must pay attention, and much, to the teeth . If you have a small child, you should know that after two years should be learning to brush their teeth after every meal, pasta, only child with a brush. And after three years and is ready to use toothpaste, a small amount at each brushing.

Furthermore, since the appearance of first teeth is recommended to make regular visits to the dentist.

A small study suggests that vitamin B12 would be a safe, effective and economical against recurrent thrush.

“The frequency (of recurrent thrush) is 25 percent in the general population,” said Ilia Volkov, the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel.

The cause of recurrent thrush. In these years, tried various treatments, such as adhesive pastes, antiseptics, vitamins, herbs and steroids.

Although these treatments reduce pain or the number of injuries in the short term, very few proved to have a lasting effect.

The team led by Volkov had already discovered that the treatment of recurrent aphthae with vitamin B12 had lasting results.

In the latest study on 58 volunteers, the team declined to confirm the effectiveness of vitamin B12 on a comparison of results between a group of actively treated patients and a control group that received “placebo.”

The results were published in The Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine.

Compared with placebo, treatment with vitamin B12 significantly reduced pain, number of ulcers and the duration of outbreaks at five and six months. That improvement did not vary by level of vitamin B12 in the blood of patients at baseline.

In the last month of treatment, 74.1 percent of patients treated with vitamin B12 had no ulcers, compared with 32 percent of the control group.

The authors say it is not known exactly how vitamin B12 produces these benefits. The fact that the treatment gave such good results regardless of the initial level of vitamin B12 in blood suggests that vitamin would have some as yet unknown functions.

The gestation period is a period of great change, including hormones and increased blood flow. These changes increase the risk of tooth decay, bleeding gums or gingivitis.

The following tips will allow you to wear your best smile when it comes time to give birth.

Brush your teeth after every meal. Use a fine brush and fluoride toothpaste. Clean the tongue and floss. Its regular use helps prevent gingivitis.

If you have any dental-fulfillment, it is better to do before pregnancy, but if you’re expecting a baby, you should wait for the period between the fourth and sixth month, for the first three are of extreme importance for the development of child and the incidence of complications is higher.

Either way, it is recommended that regularly visit the dentist at least once during pregnancy and again after delivery, that even if you have any dental condition.

However, if your gums are swollen and oozing or have the impression that you move your teeth, go immediately to the dentist, as they may be symptoms of a periodontal problem.

For healthy teeth, food plays a major role. Avoid sugar, “as far as possible,” for its high consumption causes plaque to be more aggressive and to produce acids that attack the enamel and cause cavities.

The gum tissues are extremely sensitive to hormonal changes that could favor even situations that result in the loss of teeth.

Some people do not give the necessary importance, but when people have problems with their teeth not only creates an aesthetic problem, but also negatively affects food intake.
dental health
The sensitivity in teeth and gums, tooth decay and other infections that are generated in the mouth will prevent people from being able to eat, chew or drink normally, which directly affects the supply of calories and nutrients the human body.

Cavities, for example, are the most common infections in diseases that are generated in the mouth. The formation of the same is annoying and occurs due to poor hygiene and eating too acidic elements that cause the dissolution of the teeth.

Sugar is a major cause of oral problems in their consumption without control. Children are the ones who suffer most from the problem of decay due to indiscriminate consumption of sweets, chocolates and products that have a fresh load high.

Another major problem is dental erosion, which is produced by the destruction of the tissues that form the teeth. This problem causes hypersensitivity to the ingestion of food or drink in extreme temperatures (either cold or hot). Brushing your teeth regularly with pasta with a high level of fluoride can help to eradicate dental erosion.

Remember that it is often convenient to visit a dentist confidence to avoid any condition that might be generated within the mouth, which may negatively impact on the rest of the body.
