Going to the dentist is one of the experiences that most people would rather avoid. Many medical professionals are aware of this situation, as Dr. Joan Blade. His experience of over 20 years in the field of implantology, endodontics and cosmetic dentistry has led him to one conclusion: we need to convey confidence to the patient’s oral health retrieval.

Are we afraid of the dentist?
According to WHO, the dental phobic affects more than 15% of the population. The data is very important, especially if we add that the other people feel some discomfort, anxiety or fear every time you have to go to the dentist.

How does a person react dental phobic?
Dental phobia is an intense fear that allows the patient to repeatedly cancel visits to the dentist, postponed – despite the worsening of the pathology involved, or even stop halfway treatments because they are not really able to handle the situation they face. The characteristic odor of our consultations, the noise of the drill, the wait stretched on the couch, anything it can cause reactions of sweating, anxiety, tremors, uncontrollable panic.

A New Vaccine Against Dental Caries

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

dental caries

A recent report published by the journal Nature Medicine, a group of British scientists has developed a vaccine against dental caries from genetically modified plants snuff. The results obtained in a patient at four months were very encouraging and this has been assumed that the treatment could be available to the public within a few years.

Tooth decay is caused by the bacteria Streptococcus mutans, which produces an acid that coats the teeth and feeds on sugar and other carbohydrates. It affects half of children aged five years and three quarters of adolescents of 17 years. To eradicate this problem, simply cover the teeth with the liquid vaccine has been developed. A few applications provide protection against cavities for at least four months. The active components are antibodies that attach to tooth decay bacteria, preventing them from remaining on the teeth. While these harmful microbes are disappearing, others harmless teeth are installed in preventing the possible presence of other cells of S. mutans.
